Sri Kumar Adhikari
He personally feels that he is a storyteller who conveys stories through canvas and colors. He believes that colors are more expressive than words. He enjoys the freedom of expression that this medium provides, as no other medium offers the same impact of that freedom. It’s a form of visual communication that connects viewers, allowing them to relate to the two-dimensional surface.
His art is an amalgamation of lived realities, learned experiences, and stories heard from elders. As an academically trained painter, he has experience with almost all styles and techniques. However, the realistic approach and narrative pictorial style have always fascinated him since his early days of art education. The current series he is working on fuses traditional Indian Mughal Miniature painting with contemporary realities. He is creating art in an era of virtual exaggeration, where almost everything is driven or controlled by the virtual world, from human emotions to cultural values. Gadgets are becoming such an integral part of our lives that we are now almost entirely dependent on them. They have become like biological organs, always part of our being. In this neo-miniature painting series, he depicts this phenomenon in a subtle and humble way.
He believes that art has the power to showcase harsh realities in a beautiful manner. This balance between reality and aesthetic sensibility, technology and human values, stories and fragments of bitter truth, is the true beauty of life. For him, painting is not just a medium of artistic expression or a profession for livelihood; it is a way of living that allows him to capture centuries and create his own world of fantasies.
The artist lives and works in India.
